What if your content, be it event speaking, video or podcasts, could generate authority in your business?
It does.
I help ambitious business owners and leaders create engaging content that builds your online authority.
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOU?
"I want to use video, but I'm stuck because I'm not professional."
"We'd like to educate our audience, but our blogs aren't being seen"
"I don't know what equipment I need for a podcast or video"
"How long should my podcast episode be?"
"I'm not getting any leads or ROI from my content".
"My presentation & speaking needs more impact".
If these are some of your concerns about creating content like videos, podcasts or speaking, then I'd love to help.
Challenge:
A mix of under-grad, post-grad and business community students pitched their proposed business to a panel of eight judges in the six-week Velocity program, and they needed help with their presentation.
Deliverables:
A storytelling and presentation workshop for 30 students to help them uncover their "why" or "insight" stories to better connect them and their business idea with the panel and some practical presentation tools to use on the day of their pitch.
Outcome:
The students all had time in front of the room telling their personal insight stories. They did group work to record their stories and we finished with exercises on warming up, gestures, body language, voice, breathing and pausing.
The workshop you did today was eye-opening. It makes me realise the importance of using your voice and body, and telling things as a interesting personal story to make a connection. I hope to not forget the confidence you showed today so I can channel some of it!
Thank you so much John! The workshop was amazing - feeling a lot more inspired about the pitch now.
Thank you, John. You'll be pleased to know we heeded your advice and opted for a story! And we won.
Thank you John! Really appreciate it and your motivation today. Super inspiring and amazing to hear your story. My cousin also has a stutter growing up and reminded me of that. Thank you for your time, love your charisma and capability of your confidence to captivate an audience!
Thanks John. That was an entertaining workshop. Loved it.
Challenge:
Help the Connector community experts better understand each other so they connect with each other on a deeper level.
Deliverables:
A two-hour storytelling workshop where I helped the 14 experts tell personal stories to help them bond.
Outcome:
Team members emotionally connected with each other and the measure of success was delivered due to an uplift in member meetings.
Great session John! Exactly what I needed yesterday! It was refreshing to get to know each other on a deeper, authentic level, and go beyond what we would talk about everyday.
Really good session, John. It was awesome getting to know the team on a more personal level and developing deeper trust. Well done.
Challenge:
Help the policy adviser team at WRC better present their council submissions more impactfully.
Deliverables:
A four-hour presentation workshop with live video presentations, public speaking critique, training games, storytelling and video analysis of each participant and how to improve beyond the workshop.
Outcome:
The 15 participants were challenged and took away valuable tools to apply in the future. All surveyed participants recommended future training throughout WRC team members.
John's passion for public speaking was infectious and his friendly intensity provided a dynamic lesson that covered the fundamentals of public speaking in an interesting and worthwhile way.
While we are all relatively experienced at speaking in front of others, it became clear once we applied suggestions from the training, how much more effective and understandable we were as speakers.!
This public speaking workshop raised an important point about the role of delivery in getting key messages across.
The workshop pushed me out of my comfort zone but helped me realise that it's not that bad in my "uncomfortable" zone.
The training was context specific and helped us upskill for presentation scenarios specific to our role. John did a great job at identifying our key areas for improvement and provided individual feedback that allowed us to make small changes that created a big difference.
I tend to take on a stronger version of myself when presenting. I thought I was a bit mad. It would appear this is actually the right thing to do. Putting on a performance helps to cement my message to an audience through pauses, pitch, connectivity, using my face and hands etc. Learning how to project my voice through breath and using projection on those key words was helpful and how to use a microphone unlocked a fear that I didn't realise was there, but now I can see that the microphone is my friend.
Challenge:
Help the communications team at NZCB better present to an audience when they train their members.
Deliverables:
A three-hour presentation workshop with live video presentations, public speaking critique, training games, storytelling and video analysis of each participant and how to improve beyond the workshop.
Outcome:
The four managers left with valuable tools and exercises in which to better deliver their member presentations.
I wish I had done this training 30 years ago. It was a focussed workshop on what we needed to improve. I took great value from the video presentation and John's analysis of my speaking strengths and weaknesses. But it was storytelling that I will apply in my future presentations with some practical warm-ups and rehearsal. Thank you John, you really know your stuff.

You can tell John knows a think or two about talking. About telling a story. From the depths of a radio voice, to the emotion in his eye when he tells you "HIS" story. His why. You know you've been effected (no, I didn't men affected) when the events of your time together occupy your thoughts and conversations in the hours/days after. And then you open up the post event info, and the learning continues....

John is an excellent trainer in presentations. He has sound knowledge of identifying people's strengths and weaknesses and providing a pathway to strengthen their weaknesses and grow their strengths. My experience from the workshop with John has really opened up a new technique to explore and that is making the content relatable through story telling.

Loved the use of acronyms to get your message across today - I think I might just be thinking about your session each time I see an ABS Braking sign... 😂

Challenge:
Help Russell Clark, owner at Licenced Rennovations, present confidently at the Auckland Home Show 2023.
Deliverables:
After the initial assessment of his speaking strengths and weaknesses, I suggested four primary speaking and audience structures that he could improve on. Slowing his rate of speech with pauses and audience "check in's", including his "why" story of winning in business and threading that story into the speech, audience engagement so they were included in the conversation and lastly limiting his movement on stage so he had more presence.
Outcome:
Russell and his team received 75 quality leads from the show and his presentation, which has a potential ROI for his business of 4 million dollars.
